Brian Rafferty

USCF Category: 3
Racing Since: 2000
Racing Age: 49
Occupation: investor relations

At age 41 Brian began riding and racing mountain bikes and, despite an intractable lack of technical skills, within three years was placing in regional and NORBA NCS Expert XC and STX races. In 2002 he finished 5th overall in the NORBA National Championship Series in Expert 45+ XC. Following a 7th place finish in the 45+ time trial at the 2002 Masters Nationals, in 2003 Brian switched to racing mainly on the road, partly because his wife Helen pointed out to him that “you can go faster on the road, and we live near roads, not mountains.” In 2005, Brian had two wins, two top five finishes and six more top ten finishes riding for a Rhode Island-based masters cycling team.
